Stair Nosing Installation Guide:

FIRST:

If your staircase already has pre-existing spindles, it is necessary to remove

them before installing Vanishing Vents Stair Nose. These spindles should be

detached from the existing stair treads before proceeding with the installation

process. Once the Vanishing Vents Stair Nose installation is complete, the

spindles can be re-installed.

It is important to note that cutting around the existing spindles to install the

Vanishing Vents Stair Nose is not recommended. This is because it may

compromise the integrity and stability of both the spindles and the stair

treads, potentially leading to safety hazards.

TOOLS REQUIRED

  • TABLE SAW WITH CARBIDE TIPPED BLADES

  • TAPE MEASURE

  • SCRAPER

  • MITER SAW WITH CARBIDE TIPPED BLADES

  • GLOVES

  • SAFETY GLASSES

  • URETHANE-BASED ADHESIVE

  • HAMMER

  • VACUUM

NOTE: STAIR TREAD SYSTEM should be installed from bottom stair to top with treads and risers being installed in the alternating order.

Start from the bottom stair: Begin the installation at the bottom of the staircase. This will ensure a consistent and orderly installation process.Determine the alternating order: The stair tread system typically consists of treads (the horizontal steps) and risers (the vertical elements between the steps). Decide on the alternating order in which you will install them. For example, you may start with a tread, followed by a riser, then another tread, and so on.

PREPARE

1. Gather all of the tools listed.

2. Start by removing any carpet, pad and staples from your existing staircase.

3. Vacuum the staircase and make sure it is free of debris.

MEASURE

4. Measure each stair tread (step). Be sure to measure twice and from both sides of the tread AS WELL AS use a T-Bevel or Angle Gauge since the treads may or may not be the same size and might not be square.

a. Cut down the width of the STAIR TREAD SYSTEM with a sliding compound miter saw.

b. Use a table saw (or circular saw with a guide) to make any alterations to the depth of the STAIR TREAD SYSTEM that runs along the entire length of the product.

SET IN PLACE

IMPORTANT! TO KEEP TREADS IN PLACE WHILE INSTALLING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, YOU CAN ALSO SECURE WITH 3-4 BRAD NAILS ACROSS THE WIDTH OF THE TREAD, BUT NOT MORE THAN 1/4” FROM THE CURRENT RISER. YOU WANT THE STAIR TREAD SYSTEM RISER TO COVER UP ANY BRAD NAILS INSTALLED.

5. Check the cut of the STAIR TREAD SYSTEM for accuracy by dry-fitting it onto the stair for which you measured.

7. ADHESIVE PATTERN: Use Heavy Duty Liquid Nails, or any All Urethane Construction Adhesive. Apply about an 1/4” thick bead around the perimeter and then throughout the middle in a zig-zag shape on the back of the STAIR TREAD SYSTEM as seen below and adhere the new STAIR TREAD SYSTEM to the existing tread. No need to use a trowel or full spread the adhesive.

PREPARE RISER

7. Measure for risers only after the tread has been installed.

a. Cut down the width of risers with a sliding compound miter saw.

b. Use a table saw (or circular saw with a guide) to make any alterations to the height of the riser that runs along the entire length of the product.

8. As in step #6, use Heavy Duty Liquid Nails or any Urethane Construction adhesive. Apply about an 1/4” thick bead around the perimeter and then throughout the middle in a zig-zag shape on the back of the riser as previously shown and adhere riser to staircase.

FINISHING

9. Caulk STAIR TREAD SYSTEM around the perimeter of the stair treads / risers and wipe clean for a nice finished look with no gaps.
